From sitting at his feet to sitting on ours                                              Luke 11      John. 11

We know that this family was saved by their fruits.

Desire to worship

Desire to work

Divine will to resurrect

We know because the savior loved them and wept over them

He wept with them

He never wept with hypocrites or Pharisees

Mary was first to worship

Then Mary wouldn't even come outside. The roles reversed from one account to another

Martha was faithful to work

Martha had no problem serving

Matter of fact she was so overcome by the need she saw

But she was not overwhelmed by the need she had.

There's  a time to serve but there’s also a time to shout

Worship is needful.

Mary went from sitting at his feet to sitting on hers.

Martha went from serving to supping

What happened between these two accounts…

What caused Mary to quit…

Something happened in her life that caused her to sit down

  1. Sister who would work but never worship.

In other words she was busy and stayed in the kitchen and kept things going but her heart was far from the true need. Maybe she was discouraged from her sister

  1. A savior who would not come

  1. A special need he would not meet

What God was doing was gonna be more marvelous when he was done

But she could not see the end result and sat down defeated

She sat down because of defeat

She sat down because of discouragement

She sat down because of distance

She was distant in her heart because hadn’t done what she asked.

Will you also quit because things didn't go your way

She got up when her sister said the master calleth for thee

She quit because he didn’t show or preforms in her timing

She got up when he called her name.

Defeat overcame desire

Discouragement overcame deity

Distance overcame disposition

Good Works

Titus 3

v1 Christian conduct

v2. christians character

v4-7 Christian Conversion

v8 Christian consistancy

v9-11 Christian conflict

v12-15 christian comrades

these are all tied to 1 central theme. the phrase good work is mentioned 3 times.

3 times Good works is mentioned.

He makes this doctrinal statement to young timothy and is clearing up any miscommunications concerning Works. that its not Our Works that Save us.

But the work is a work of Mercy.

and then He goes on to talk about regeneration and the washing of Water by the word. In that salvation is by Jesus Christ.

and is teaching us that A man that is saved by grace through Faith is Made eirs to God in Christ Jesus

Now paul is clear that Good works has nothing to do with salvation.

Somone once asked Charles spurgeon if he believed in Good works, and he said Yes, I also believe in Chimney tops, But chimney tops are not the foundation of the House.

But its by grace are you saved through Faith. and that Not of yourselves it is the gift of GOD. NOT OF WORKS lets any man should Boast

So Herein our text over 3x times He has said Good works and he has made a great emphasis on Good Works

And that The works are not For salvation but For being useful

Why is paul concerned with Good works.

What is the Purpose.

the answer is found in verse 14 - FOR NECESSARY USES

1st mention - Neh 2:18

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.

Phl 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Good works are our witness to the unsaved. The fruit of which Paul speaks

We are surrounded by usless people - Just a fact - Not critical

we are surrounded by pew warmers

we are surrounded by Spectators

we are surrounded by Name Lovers

We are surrounded by everyone having answers but no one with a solution

there's always somebody criticizing the work of God both without and within.

critics are Killing our churches.

Usefulness is the rent that is due by us for being allowed to live in Gods World.

God created us with Purpose. not just in Life bt in the Service of God.

Its easy to sit around and Point fingers.

Good works are believers' love-offerings to God.

Usefulness requires

title seekers are squatters in the ministry. - They are people who move on a property and never do anything with it.

Id rather not have a title and DO something than have a title and never do anything

   - We live in a day where people are giving trophys for evrything

People Now days need rewards - For Doing Right - For Stopping Sinning-

No TASK - what im saying is you dont need to  wait on someone to tell you to do something

Oh I want to do Something for God that is USEFUL

Some men think that pastoring is Preaching 3 services a week.

not loving the Work. But Loving the LORD

Titus 3:14 "And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful."

“Good works:” Again, the emphasis is on good deeds as the platform for witnessing effectively (verse 8; 1:13-16; 2:5, 8, 10, 12, 14).

Ours here, is speaking of the members of the church at Crete. The good works spoken of probably, is speaking of taking up an offering for the travelers. They should be willing to help the missionaries who came by their church.

The main reason a person should give, besides the necessity, is what it will do for their own feelings knowing they have been of help in the ministry. They can participate in the missionary endeavor, even though they do not go on the trip.

The TEAM of Usefulness

He says bring these men. - Hes interested in Men that are profitable to the work of God.

They are in Pauls corner and in the Work of God.

Paul surrounds hiself with useful people.

Surround your self with people you can be helped by

The TIMING Of Usefulness

He is calling on Faithful useful men that he can count on

Paul is saying I know where I am going to be I need men that can Do the work, he knows he cant be in 2 places at one time.

these men are to make sure the Work of God goes on.

What Makes the church great is the presence and work that Goes on.

All the title Should DO IS REFINE Responsibility

Oh God restore the Zeal to WORK AGAIN

Its one thing to Want to work. but its another thing to Open Doors Gods not opening. SO many times I see people that are to one extreme or the other.

they either Wont do NOTHING

Or They are trying to Pry every DOOR Open God has SHut

If we ever sit down WE ARE FINISHED.

The Truth about usefulness

To Be useful

  •   Must be submissive

  - Gods not using a rebel

  - You cant despise authority. AND THERE MUST BE Authority.

  • You must be spritual SOme want somethign to do but their not ready

they were ahting one another. YOU WANT GOD TO USE YOU - DONT FORGET WHAT YOU USE TO BE.

Dont forget what you were what you wouldve been.

if it werent for grace you would still be out there.

Be thankful BUT DOnt forget where you came from

  •  You Must me Surrendered

I meet preachers who think the people of God owe them something.

Paul said I am a debtor to the greeks both the wise and unwise

Im a debtor to the church

Im a debtor to christ

Im a debtor to this Generation

Good works are our edifying example to our fellow believers. "In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility" (Titus 2:7).

Good works are the means by which we minister to the needs of our fellow believers. "And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful" (Titus 3:14)

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

DONT BE ASHAMED TO WORK!!! - Thank God for a Job - Thank God for men and women who will work

  • self examination - to be usable

  • Salvation - to be usable

  • Steadfastness - TO be usable

oh how we need consistant people in the church.

  • Stand

  • Supporters

  - Paul surrounds HImself with men who Believe the same thing and are in the same race

Good works are not essential to salvation – NOT OF WORKS LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST

Good Works are essential for Edification – As a Witness

This subject is one that many don’t believe in until they face it themselves

If you’ll look through the bible you’ll see 1 right after another that struggle.

Elijah ran out and preached a powerful message and wound up laying under a tree begging God to kill Him.

Job sat and said he wished he'd never been born.

Statistics tell us now that depression is now seen in children as young as age 3-5 neurologically

But beginning in age 6-13 it is common.

14-60 it is very common.

Depression is 2/3rds the cause of all suicides.

Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death worldwide.

For every 2 homicides there are 3 suicides.

Depression is the physical and emotional result of hopelessness – the ‘feeling‘ of hopelessness

I have heard men that preach you only have depression if you don’t trust God.

But study the bible you’ll see one after another who fought with this very sickness.

I. Darkness

Its a season that even when the sun is shining you find it hard to see any light.

II. Desolation

Depression will drive you into a place of lonliness that causes you to seclude yourself from everyone.

  A. Causes you to hide

  B. Causes you to hurt

III. Desire

    A. Take your joy

Buster said: depression is like a vacuum. It sucks you in. It makes you stay away from people and GO places. It will keep you from meetings.

   B. Take you from Jesus

Depression takes your mind far away from the things of God.

It takes you from trusting Jesus to running from Him.

IV. Danger

Danger is that you will believed everything the advesary tells you while in that place.

  A. Tool of the devil.

      -satan is using this tool

      * joans grandson

       * my heroes

         * mrs mary

   B. Take you down.

V. Deliverance

I believe the only way out of depression is through Jesus.

  A. Can not focus on the storm.

    Dont look at whats Gone

    Dont look at whos Gone

  B. Focus on the savior

    Look at whats left.

    Look at whos left

    Look at where's left

Puzzle of life.

Ephesians 4  is a call to unity.

Calling of our walk

Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called

Character of our walk

With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

The continuance of our walk

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace

The church and its work

To win the lost

To walk with the lord

To work as a light

Scripture says we are framed. We are builded together.

Fellow citizens-süm-po-'-tās-possessing the same citizenship with others, a fellow citizen of Gentiles as received into communion of the saints

Saints-hagios most holy thing, a saint

Fitly framed together- 'synarmologeō '

to join closely together

Groweth-   auxanō

to cause to grow, to increase, become greater

When you study the word of God you see things that puzzle you

Lets look at several.

Abraham and his Son

Job and his suffering

Joseph and his substance

I studied after thinking about being puzzled about things. Then thought hit me how are puzzles made.

Most puzzle pieces fall into several shape categories. .

Edge: these include corners. Edges are the easiest pieces to put together because they only have two sides to find pieces for to form the puzzle frame.

Regular: these are the most basic puzzle piece shape.

Irregular: these are regular on two sides and have one “wing”.

Double wings: these have two “wings”.

Double ears: these have two opposing tabs or ears.

First someone takes a beautiful picture and then glues it to a piece of ugly Cardboard and then it is placed under

1/2 ton of pressure and it is cut from beneath and disassembled into pieces. Its then placed into a bag and put into a box and sets on a shelf till someone comes along and desires to see all the pieces come together.

The puzzle requires  placement

1. Start with the edges

2. Though its been cut to pieces there is an end.

3. Go to the center and start working on the image.

The puzzle requires a picture

To see what the pieces make when they all come together.

The puzzle requires patience

Piece by piece it all comes back together.

You cant make pieces fit where they dont belong.

Pretty soon it all comes together

God sees the finished product

In that pile of pieces is a picture.

These men did not see the finished product but God was taking broken pieces putting them together a little at a time.

There is a heaven and there is a hell.

Im not worried about going to hell.

But im waiting on going to heaven.

My heart awaits the day that my soul and my eyes see Jesus for the first time.

Iv seen him by the eye of faith.

But in that day i shall see him as he is.

When we see Jesus

When we see Jesus, its going to fix everything.

Everything that we've waited for.

Everything we've wanted.

Everything we've

When i was younger i remember the choir singing an old song saying when we see Christ.

Oft times the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,

We're tempted to complain, to murmur and despair;

But Christ will soon appear to catch His Bride away,

All tears forever over in God's eternal day.

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,

Life's trials will seem so small when we see Christ;

One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,

So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Sometimes the sky looks dark with not a ray of light,

We're tossed and driven on , no human help in sight;

But there is one in heav'n who knows our deepest care,

Let Jesus solve your problem - just go to Him in pray'r.

Our sin problem

From the beginning mans problem has been simple.

   A. Nature problem

We are of our father the devil.

Sin has wrecked and destroyed families and hearts and homes and ministries.

    B. Nurture problem.

We have nurtured our nature problem.

We have fed our habit of sin.

We have indulged in sin because of our nature.

But Jesus is going to fix it all.

Revelation 21:27 KJV

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh n abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

No sin in heaven. The only thing there that will even be a remembrance of sin is the marks he bore for our sin.

Our satan problem

Satan lost the fight at calvary

Satan will be cast into hell for a season.

Revelation 12:9-12 KJV

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into l the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [10] And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. [11] And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. [12] Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Revelation 20

Our Satan problem is dealt with permanently.

Our souls problem

We are not at home in this world.

This world is not our permanent dwelling.

Our failed moments

Our frail minds

Our feeble men

Our family messups

But when we are united with Christ.

It will fix it all.

We have to pray

2 important things in prayer.

Who he is

Who you are

1 we are not worthy to even approach him him in our flesh. But we Have been made acceptable in him through the finished work of Calvary and the forgiveness of sin being washed in his own blood.

What a privilege it is to pray.

Hanna prayed for a son

Paul and silas prayed in prison

Peter prayed in prison for his release

Moses prayed to see God

Hezekiah prayed for his day

Abraham prayed for his nephew

Dont quit praying

Accessibility of prayer

Bold access

Hebrews 4:16 KJV

Let us therefore come boldly s unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Who can pray

  Any one can pray.

1st prayer God answers is a prayer of salvation

Why should we pray

  Commanded in the scriptures

  Continued by the saints

  Commended by the spirit

What amazes me is that God would let somebody like me into the throne room

Youll never get on your knees that heaven is not available

Youll never pray and he wont be there

Youll never have a need that HE's not able to meet

Youll never get a busy signal

You'll never get ignored

Acknowledgement of Prayer.

Psalm 116:1-4

I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

[2] Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

[3] The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

[4] Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

Absense of prayer.

When did you last pray for yourself

Your church your pastor

Your children

Your marriage

Your friends

The lost

There's dust on the altar

Its time we rebuild the altar

Its time we rebuild the landmarks

Praying for revival

Praying for a renewing

Praying for redemption of souls

I refuse to bow

I refuse to bend

I refuse to back down

Im going into the throne room and taking my petition to God

Im Going Boldy

I'm Going Biblically

I'm Going believing

Mark 11:24 KJV

Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

II timothy 2:13     ---Faith

Faith in things that seem impossible

Faith in things that seem impermeable

Faith in things that seem unthinkable
